General maintenance and repairs needed can vary depending on what type of shingles you currently have installed. For a wood shake shingle roof we recommend having it checked every year or two after it’s 10-12 years old. A typical wood shake shingle roof lasts about 17-20 years before needing replaced. For an asphalt/composition shingle roof, we recommend having it checked 5-10 years after installed, and then every 5 or 6 years from then on out. Depending on the quality, asphalt/composition roofs normally last 20-40 years before needing replaced.
